Design origins[]
Yveltal is based on the letter Y. Its design may also be derived from the mythical giant Hræsvelgr or a mythical bird and hawk called Veðrfölnir and the eagle. The red and black coloring and patterns may also represent pain, suffering, death, and evil.
Etymology[]
Yveltal's name comes from the letter Y and possibly from the words yvel, a Middle English word meaning evil, and possibly quetzal or talon.
