Team Aqua Grunts are the lowest ranked members of Team Aqua, whose goal is to expand the sea. They work under Matt, Shelly, and Archie. In Pokémon Ruby, they assist the player to prevent Team Magma from draining the water for expansion of land. These grunts are the easiest to defeat. In Pokémon Emerald, these grunts are the major opponents for the player to battle. They mostly use Water-type Pokémon, but they also occasionally use Dark and Poison Pokémon as well.
Crawdaunt was used in Team Aqua's evil plans. They were used against Ash and his Pikachu, Team Rocket, and Team Magma's Mightyena and Golbat. It was also used to capture Mr. Biney's Peeko.
