Stance Change (Japanese: バトルスイッチ Battle Switch) is an Ability introduced in the Generation VI games, Pokémon X and Y. It is the signature ability of Aegislash.

Game info[]

Description[]

Version(s) Description
X/Y The Pokémon changes form depending on how it battles.

Effect[]

In battle[]

Stance Change switches the stance, or forme, of the Pokémon between Shield Forme and Blade Forme. While in Shield Forme, the Pokémon has a higher Defense and Special Defense and having a lower Attack and Special Attack. In Blade Forme, these stats are reversed. The Pokémon switches into Blade Forme whenever it directly chooses and deals a damaging move and switches into Shield Forme when it uses the move King's Shield. Whenever the Pokémon is sent out into battle, it starts out in Shield Forme, regardless if it was previously returned in Blade Forme or not. Regardless of any status conditions the Pokémon may have, the ability still takes affect prior to the status condition's effect.

Any ability or move that tries to copy the ability to itself or tries to surpress it, the ability or move will have no effect on the user. If another Pokémon does acquire this ability, however, the ability does not take affect.

Outside of battle[]

Stance Change has no effect outside of battle.
