Mat Block (Japanese: たたみがえし Tatami Flip) is a Fighting-type move introduced in the Generation VI games, Pokémon X and Y. It is one of the signature moves of Greninja, the other being Water Shuriken.
Game info[]
Effect[]
In battle[]
Mat Block protects the user and its allies from all moves that would inflict damage on them. It is a priority move that only works if it is the first move used after being sent into battle. Otherwise, the move will fail. The user must be switched out and brought back into the battle to use this move again.
There are two damaging moves that bypass Mat Block: Phantom Force and Shadow Force. Additionally, both of these moves will remove the shield protecting the user and its allies for the remainder of the turn.
If the user has the ability Protean, the user's type is only changed to Fighting if the move succeeds.
Outside of battle[]
Mat Block has no affect outside of battle.
Description[]
Version(s) | Description |
---|---|
X/Y | Using a pulled-up mat as a shield, the user protects itself and its allies from damaging moves. This does not stop status moves. |
