The Fast Ball (Japanese: スピードボール Speed Ball)is a Johto-game exclusive that can be used to catch Pokémon which run away quickly and easily such as Pokémon with the Run Away ability or Legendary Pokémon like Raikou and Entei. It is characterized by yellow half-circles on the sides of both the top and bottom halves, with the top half being primarily red and carrying a lightning-bolt yellow mark on the very top.

Catch Rate[]

Generation II
  • 4x if used on a fleeing or roaming Pokémon
  • 1x other usage
Generation IV
  • 4x if used on a Pokémon with a base Speed of at least 100
  • 1x other usage

Trivia[]

  • The Fast Ball is similar the Quick Ball due the fact they are both useful in catching Pokemon that flee easily or hard to capture due to having escape moves like Teleport, Roar, and Whirlwind.
  • In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Fast Ball was changed to improve the catch rate when trying to catch Pokémon with a base Speed of 100 or higher. If it worked that way in the original Gold and Silver, it would be ineffective against Suicune, who was a roaming Pokémon in those games; however, since HeartGold and SoulSilver reflect Pokémon Crystal's plot more closely, Suicune is not a roaming Legendary Pokémon and is no easier to catch with the Fast Ball, as its base Speed is only 85.
