They use Water-type and Dark-typePokémon such as Carvanha and Sharpedo. In Sapphire, Matt uses 2 Carvanha (1 evolves into Sharpedo for the second battle) and a Poochyena (which evolves into Mightyena for the second battle), while in Emerald, he only uses Mightyena and Golbat. In both Sapphire and Emerald, Shelly uses a Carvanha (which becomes a Sharpedo for the second battle), and a Mightyena.
