Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is the fifth game in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. It is the second Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game released for the Nintendo 3DS, following Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. It introduced Mega Evolution and the Fairy type to the series. It also adds Looplets, as well as Emeras to the series. Emeras are items which are found in dungeons attached to various Looplets, and can give the player various boosts, inside dungeons. In addition some mechanics from previous Pokémon Mystery Dungeons games return, including the Belly/Hunger, as well as TM's being only usable one time again.
Starter Pokémon[]
In Super Mystery Dungeon, there are 20 different Pokémon, which includes all of the starters from the main-game regions, as well as Pikachu and Riolu. After taking the Pokémon Quiz in the beginning of the game, the player is able to either choose the Pokémon the quiz selected, or the player can choose to choose a different starter. Similarly, the game will also choose the partner Pokémon, but the player is able to choose another. However, when choosing a new partner you are unable to choose a Pokémon which is the same type as your starter.
