Gems are hold items introduced in Pokémon Black and White. These items can be found throughout dust clouds inside caves.
There are a total of seventeen gems, each corresponding with a type. When held by a Pokémon, it strengthens the power of a Pokémon's move that matches the type of the gem. Afterwards, the gem is consumed, removing it from being held by the Pokémon. The gem is consumed only if it damages the target; missing with a move, using a Status Move, or failing to damage the foe will not trigger the consumption of the gem.
