Nando (Japanese: ナオシ Naoshi) is a recurring character from the Pokémon anime. He is a wandering minstrel who enjoys music and as such always carries his golden harp with him.

History

He made his debut appearance in Dawn Of A New Era!. At the time, he was confused as to whether he should challenge gyms or become a Pokémon Coordinator and didn't know what path to take. He battled both Ash and Dawn with his Budew, which evolved into Roselia during his battle with Ash. After the battle, Nando decided to become a Pokémon Trainer as well as a Coordinator.
He later appears again in A Secret Sphere of Influence!, where he is falsely accused and arrested due to Jessie, James, and Meowth's stealing of the Adamant Orb.
Nando also appeared in Dawn's Early Night where he entered the Hearthome Contest, which he won by defeating Zoey.
Nando made a cameo in A Breed Stampede! alongside with Kenny in Marian's news report about coordinators.
After a long time of absence, he appeared again in DP174 as a participant in the Sinnoh Grand Festival. He made it past the Appeal Round and pretty soon reached Top 4 as well in DP176. In the said episode, he faced Zoey in battle with his Lopunny and Kricketune. They fought hard in the battle, even impressing Fantina a lot with their combination; however, he eventually lost to Zoey. In the same episode, Nando can be seen playing music to the Pokémon around the area. He made a brief appearence in the following episode watching Dawn and Zoey compete in the finals and then again after the Grand Festival had finished and played a song for Zoey and Dawn.
Character
Nando's character can be easily described as calm and collective. Even in the most tense of situations, such as being arrested for a crime he did not commit, he will always look to the positive side. His favorite pastime is to play his harp for anyone, whether they be human or Pokémon, who will care to listen in hopes of spreading the tranquility he feels inside to others.
Even if Nando encounters a Trainer that has hostility towards him, such as Zoey, he will still treat that Trainer with the utmost respect. As seen in Dawn of a New Era!, Nando likes to be a peace maker, helping Ash and Dawn settle their differences on whether battling or coordinating are better than one another.
Nando's timid personality doesn't mean that he should be taken lightly during battle. He uses his calm personality to his advantage during a Pokémon Battle to help him ease the stresses that he may have.

| Lopunny is Nando's most recently revealed Pokémon and it first appeared in DP176, where it was used in the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Lopunny's dancing skills were well suited alongside Kricketune's ability to create music and were used to simulate a ballerina and a violinist, respectively. The two were able to put up a good fight against Zoey's Mismagius and Leafeon during the Semi-Finals. However it wasn't enough against Zoey's highly trained Pokémon and the two had the fewest points by the time the points ran out.Lopunny's known moves are Jump Kick, Protect, Blizzard and Focus Blast. | ||
