Trivia[edit | edit source]

Facts[edit | edit source]

  • The method behind Inkay's evolution to Malamar (holding the Nintendo 3DS upside down) is unique in comparison to all other methods of Pokémon evolution.
  • The Dark/Psychic combination is exclusive to Malamar and Inkay.
  • Malamar and its pre-evolution, Inkay, are the only two Pokémon who are part of the Water 2 egg group that do not have Water typing.

Design origins[edit | edit source]

Malamar is based on an upside down squid.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Malamar's name is based on the words mal, Latin for bad, and calamari, a commonly fried food made from squid.
