Origins[edit | edit source]

Machamp appears to be based off a bodybuilder whilst its name is a portmanteau of macho and champ.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Machamp is one of the four Pokémon having four arms, the others being Ledian, Graveler, and Cofagrigus.
  • All of Machamp's sprites in Generation III lack its belt.
  • Machamp's Japanese name, Kairikī (カイリキー), is nearly the same as for the move Strength, which is kairiki (かいりき) in Japanese. The main difference is Machamp's name is written in Katakana while the move Strength's name is written in Hiragana.
