Synopsis[]
Continuing to Violet City, Ash and company encounter a Donphan and attempt to catch it, under the impression it was wild. Ash uses his newly caught Heracross to battle, but before Ash can finish it, its trainer, a girl named Rochelle, appears, angered, thinking they were trying to steal her Pokémon. Ash and Brock apologize, saying they thought it was wild. Brock comments on her necklace made of Amberite, a rare mineral. Ash asks for a battle, but Rochelle declines, instead disappearing into the forest.
Team Rocket is then seen searching for the mineral. Meowth explains that Donphan can locate Amberite. Team Rocket, upon learning of this, plan to steal Rochelle's Donphan to get rich from the Amberite. Team Rocket catches Donphan in a net and after taking off with Donphan, they bribe it with food into finding Amberite, but unbeknownst to them, it cannot find Amberite yet.
After an unsuccessful search by Brock's Zubat, Rochelle whistles for her herd of well trained Donphan and orders them to find their missing member. Rochelle explains that the stolen Donphan isn't trained yet and therefor cannot locate Amberite yet and cannot recognize her whistle's sound.
Using the herd's help, Ash and company locate Team Rocket and send them blasting off. Ash challenges Rochelle to a Pokémon battle against her strongest Donphan, but loses. Soon after, Ash and company continue on to Violet City.
