A Blustery Santalune Gym Battle! (Japanese: ハクダンジム戦!華麗なるビビヨンの舞バトル!! The Hakudan Gym Battle! The Magnificent Viviyon's Dance Battle!!) is the 806th episode of the Pokémon anime series. In this episode, Ash, challenges his first gym in the Kalos region.

Summary[]

The episode begins with Serena finishing a meal with her Fennekin at a Pokémon Center and then leaving to head to Santalune City to find the guy she saw on Prism Tower, Ash. The scene then switches to Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie where they are seen running in Santalune City to find the gym. Clemont then falls to the ground and when he gets back up he asks Ash if he even knew where the gym was. Ash replies that he does not but is sure he will find it if he keeps on running. He is then interrupted by a woman taking a picture of he and his Pikachu. The mysterious woman then makes note of how Ash and Pikachu must make a great pair and Ash introduces himself. The woman then points out that the gym is nearby and tells him where to go. Ash thanks the person then rushes off with Clemont thanking her as well and then tries to catch up with Ash and Bonnie.

After the introduction concludes, Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie are outside the Santalune City Gym where Clemont reveals that the Gym Leader uses Bug-type Pokémon. Ash, being even more excited, announces that he wishes to challenge the gym. The doors then open and a Helioptile jumps through the doors and onto Ash. Ash recognizes the Pokémon to be Alexa's, who then appears at the door. Alexa explains that her research is done so she came to Santalune City to wait for Ash and asks Ash if the people behind them are his new friends. After a brief introduction, Clemont asks if he already knew the gym leader, thinking the person was Alexa. Ash then clarifies and says that she is a journalist and Alexa then comments to say that the gym leader is her sister, Viola. It is then that her sister appears and the trio see that it was the woman who took a picture of Ash and Pikachu earlier. Viola then allows them to enter the gym where they see a lot of pictures that she has taken over time. Bonnie then takes action and gets down on one knee and asks Viola to marry her brother, Clemont. This confuses everyone and Clemont runs over and reminds her that she shouldn't do that. However, this does not stop her, so Clemont uses his Aipom Arm to drag her away, embarrassed. The focus then switches back to Viola and Ash and they start to head to the battle field. The scene briefly returns to Serena who has just arrived in Santalune City and is excited to meet back up with Ash after so long and wonders if he will remember her.

The battle is now underway. Viola sends out her Surskit and after checking it out on his Pokédex, Ash sends out his Pikachu. The battle begins with Pikachu's Quick Attack, but it gets blocked by Surskit's Protect. Ash then follows through with an [[Iron Taill] from behind Surskit, but was dodged. Surskit then begins to skate around Pikachu, showing off its great speed. Ash tries to stop it by having Pikachu use Electro Ball, but the move is stopped by Surskit's Ice Beam. Alexa comments on how Viola is tough and beating her is not easy. Viola then commands her Pokémon to use Ice Beam on the battlefield which results in Pikachu not being able to walk or stand easily on the ice. Surskit then skates around once more, but this time on ice, making it even faster. Pikachu is able to land a successful Iron Tail on it, but then it begins to use Ice Beam. Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunder Bolt on it, neutralizing the attack, but sending Pikachu flying back. Surskit then uses Signal Beam, hitting Pikachu and knocking it out, giving the win to Surskit. Ash then sends out his Fletchling and it is then that Serena shows up and notices Ash. Alexa questioning her presence and Serena asks if she can watch, which is happily granted as she joins Alexa, Clemont, and Bonnie on the sidelines. Ash then resumes the battle by having Fletchling use Peck, but it is dodged. Surskit follows up with an Ice Beam, but it was dodged successfully by Fletchling. Surskit then continues attacking but this time with Sticky Web, hitting all over the place but being dodged successfully. Fletchling then uses Razor Wind, hitting Surskit and knocking it out. Viola then sends out her last Pokémon, Vivillon, a Pokémon never seen by Ash before. After checking out its information on the Pokédex, Ash begins the battle with a Peck attack from Fletchling. However, Fletchling is stopped by Vivillon's Psychic attack and was sent flying to the ice ground battle field. Vivillon then uses Gust, sending Fletchling into a Sticky Web left by Surskit. With Fletchling stuck, Viola command Vivillon to use Solar Beam, making direct contact to Fletchling and knocking it out. After losing the battle, Clemont and Bonnie run to Ash and Clemont mentions how they must be sent to the Pokémon. Ash, disappointed by his loss, promises to return to Viola's gym once he gets stronger and then rushes off to the Pokémon Center. Sernea is then left behind, but sees that Ash left his bag behind.

When Ash arrives at the Pokémon Center, he has Nurse Joy's Wigglytuff take his Pokémon to get healed. Viola, talking to her sister, makes a note that Ash wasn't as strong as she thought he would be, but Alexa reassures her that he will surprise her yet and then goes off. While waiting for his Pokémon to be healed, Ash thinks about how easily beaten he was and how strong Viola is. Serena then returns with his bag, but looking at Ash's despair in shock. She then starts to approach Ash and gives him his bag back. Clemont and Bonnie then state that she was there watching him battle, as Ash didn't notice her during the battle. Before Serena can mention how she already knew him from the past, there is an announcement that his Pokémon have been fully healed so he heads to the Pokémon Center. Ash then introduces Pikachu and Fletchling to Serena. However, Serena is surprised to see Nurse Joy here as she previously saw her on Route 4. Ash, knowing the answer, asks if it really was the same Nurse Joy. Nurse Joy then explains that, like other regions, all Nurse Joys in a region look the same, by proof of a photograph of the Nurse Joys from Kalos. Serena then asks Nurse Joy to look at her Fennekin, which is another Pokémon not seen by Ash, so he records the data on his Pokédex. Alexa then shows up asking if he's going to start training for a rematch and in reply, Ash asks if she will help.

Ash and the gang then head out to the battlefield next to the Pokémon center and Alexa sends out her Noivern. Pikachu and Fletchling are tied to balloons to help train them against a Gust attack similar to the one that Viola's Vivillon used. Noivern begins using Gust, but the move was too strong, sending Pikachu and Fletchling flying back and then caught by Ash. They continue their training and this time both Pokémon last longer, but still could not withstand the strength of the move. Ash then starts to worry about being able to beat Viola. The episode ends with Serena handing Ash a handkerchief and finally asking a question she's been dying to ask: "Ash, do you remember me?" This is where the episode ends, in a question waiting to be answered in the next episode.
