Crowning the Scalchop King! (さらばミジュマル！？ホタチキングへの道！ Goodbye Mijumaru!? The Path to Being Hotachi King!) is the 785th episode of the Pokémon anime series. In this episode, Ash enters his Oshawott in a competition in attempt to be named the Scalchop King.
Summary[edit | edit source]
The episode first begins with the viewers seeing many Oshawott and Dewott on the cruise ship that Ash, Iris, and Cilan are on. Iris makes a point of seeing a lot of those two Pokémon and Ash agrees while Cilan makes the observation that it might have something to do with their next stop. This is when Porter arrives at the table that the three of them are eating at and asks them if everything is going well. Ash then asks Porter where the next stop is and Porter informs them that the next stop is called Scalchop Island. That intrigues both Ash and Pikachu and Porter explains the island in more detail. Porter explains that the island got its name, supposedly, from the island being made of sea shells and making the shape of a scalchop. Ash then asks Porter if all of the Oshawott and Dewott on board have anything to do with the island and Porter replies by saying that trainers from all over bring their Oshawott and Dewott there for a competition held there every year called the Scalchop King Competition. He finishes by saying that the competition starts today and when that is said, Ash's Oshawott comes out of its Poké Ball. Ash then asks his Oshawott if he would like to enter the competition and Oshawott replies with its usual amount of confidence and so Ash decides to enter and win the Scalchop King Competition.
After the opening sequence, Ash, Iris, and Cilan are seen viewing the various merchandise and food at Scalchop Island and notice that all of the items are related to scalchops in one form or another. It is then that they hear a voice announcing the competition, the guy is dressed wearing scalchops and Ash recognizes the man as Freddy the Scoop (Freddy O'Martian), one of the well known announcers in the Unova region. Freddy the Scoop then goes on to explain that the winner of this year's competition will win the Golden Scalchop, which was hand-created by somebody who lives on the island, which is brought out by a woman. Everyone in the audience is in awe at the prize, and Iris, still in awe, wonders if it's made of pure gold. This is when Team Rocket is seen standing in the back of the crowd, in disguise as tourists. Jessie mentions that while they were here to capture Pikachu, winning that Golden Scalchop is more worth their interest at the moment. They decide to enter the competition as well, but then Meowth makes the point that they don't own an Oshawott or Dewott. Jessie and James reassure him that they have one right there next to them and then look at Meowth and give a sinister chuckle. Meowth makes note that he hates it when those two act like this.
