Meowth, Colress, and Team Rivalry! ( ロケット団VSプラズマ団!ニャースとアクロマ!! Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma! Nyarth and Achroma!!) is the 778th episode of the Pokémon anime series. In this episode, Ash's Pignite isn't feeling too well and Team Rocket and Team Plasma clash together.

Episode Summary[]

The episode begins a minute before the last episode ended, where N, Anthea, and Concordia were leaving Ash, Iris, and Cilan. Ash and Cilan tried telling them that not all people are bad and that Pokémon and people can live together, happily. However, N tells them that they really hope so and then vanish. At first, Cilan suggests that what happened just recently is a dream, but Ash insists that it isn't and that next time they meet them they'll understand what they were trying to tell them.

After the mist fades away, the three of them notice Dragonspiral Tower where the White Ruins are near. This causes excitement and the three of them begin to rush towards the tower. The scene changes to Team Plasma where grunts explain to Aldith that they failed in their mission in capturing N. Colress explains that he is not quite finished with his machine, but is very close. It is then that Aldith notices that Team Rocket is there as well with hopes of taking Colress' machine from him. Upon Team Plasma taking their Pokémon out, Team Rocket runs away, leaving Team Rocket's Meowth and Colress alone. Colress, being pleasantly surprised by this, begins talking to Meowth to find out why he is here. Meowth explains to him that it isn't the machine they want but him. This results in Coloress laughing at this idea but is also intrigued by the idea and wishes Meowth to explain it further.

We are then taken back to Ash, Iris, and Cilan where Ash is running as fast as he can towards Dragonspiral Tower, but Iris and Cilan ask him to slow down because they are all hungry and wish to get something to eat before continuing onward. Agreeing with the idea, the three of them all call out their Pokémon to join them in their meal. Meowth is shown again and he is praising Colress' work and that surprises him. Meowth then gets to the point and tells him that Team Plasma isn't getting his full interest and that Team Rocket can fulfill them all. However, as part of him joining Team Rocket, Colress wishes to use Meowth as a test subject and Meowth agrees to it. The four Team Plasma members that were chasing after Jessie and James stopped to call out their Magnezone (Barret's) and Liepard (a grunt's). They then order the two Pokémon to attack Jessie and James which results in the two Team Rocket members throwing an energy field out around Team Plasma, trapping them. Jessie and James then tell them to stay where they are until they complete their mission and then head off.

The scene returns to Ash and his friends finishing a meal with their Pokémon. After returning their Pokémon to their Poké Balls, Ash stops at Pignite to see that he didn't eat any of its food. They just had it checked out by Nurse Joy at the Pokémon Center earlier that day, so they were wondering what was bothering it. At that time, Pignite acted like it was about to sneeze, resulting in a Flamethrower hitting Ash in the face. Ash reassured everyone that he was fine because it wasn't that strong. Realizing what was just said, everyone was surprised, and Ash told Pignite to use Flamethrower which resulted in the same small burst of flame coming out.

Colress is then seen starting his experiment on Meowth and seeing the results are far better than he expected. Meowth then started to count Mareep in his head, similar to humans "counting sheep." Jessie and James then appear to check in on Colress and Meowth to see that their special training with Meowth is paying off. However, shortly after, Meowth begins to fail in his training. We are then taken back to the Team Plasma members stuck in the energy field where Barret orders his grunts to help try to take down the field. However, Aldith cancels the order and says its of no use. Therefore, Aldith orders Barret's Magnezone to use supersonic which affects the wild Pokémon around the field to start attacking all around, destroying the energy field. Team Plasma then returns to their base to meet Team Rocket there and again explaining that they will not succeed in taking over the Unova region. Colress then tells Team Plasma that Meowth has joined them due to the machine taking control of his body. Shocked at his decision to not join Team Rocket, Team Rocket realizes that Meowth's training failed and that he is in fact under control of Team Plasma.

Ash, Iris, and Cilan are still trying to help Pignite, using a variety of techniques, but realizing that they are failing. Iris' Axew, walking over to Pignite, notices there is something stuck in Pignite's nostrils. Cilan suggests Pignite to jump up and down to try to dislodge the object, but it fails. Over near the Dragonspiral Tower, N, sees two Pokémon that look frightened and ask them to show him what they saw. The flashback shows multiple Genesect leaving the, now ruined, research area of Team Plasma's. This upsets N, due to his love for Pokémon the way they are and not through manipulation. Returning back to Team Plasma and Team Rocket, Meowth began attacking Team Rocket using Fury Swipes which results in a tornado forming. After dodging the attacks on them, Jessie and James call out their Frillish and James' Amoonguss, respectively. They then order their Pokémon to attack Meowth, to be able to safely bring him over to them to talk sense to him in hopes of releasing him from Team Plasma's control. This technique released Meowth and as a result Team Plasma started to attack Team Rocket, but due to Frillish's Mist attack, they were able to escape.

In further effort to help Pignite, Ash calls out his Charizard to help out. Charizard picks up Pignite and swings him around in the air multiple times, but unfortunately it didn't help. Team Plasma informs Ghetsis that they failed to capture N, and while disappointed with his members, he is happy to inform he found a huge hint to the Light Stone's whereabouts. Team Rocket, at a distance, listened in and is also content in hearing this news. Returning to Ash's Pignite, Iris tries poking Pignite's nostrils with a plant which causes him to sneeze again and this time to seeds came out of his nose. It was discovered to be seed shells from a Bullet Seed from Cilan's Pansage when they battled earlier (off-screen). Ash then ordered his Pignite to use Flamethrower and this time it worked. The episode ended with Ash's Charizard and Pignite using their Flamethrowers.

Trivia[]

  • When James ordered his Amoonguss to use Stun Spore on Meowth, the affect of the attack appeared to be what you would see from a Pokémon being poisoned.
  • When Meowth was counting Mareep, it was being used as a reference to humans counting sheep.
