Alola is the seventh main-series region in the Pokémon world. It is the primary setting of Generation VII, including Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

It is based on real-life Hawaii, and consists of four islands: Melemele Island, Akala Island, Ula'ula Island and Poni Island, as well as the artificial Aether Paradise. In Alola a culture that respects Pokémon has evolved, which is somewhat different to that found in other regions.

Cities and Towns[edit | edit source]

Note that Alola, unlike other regions, lacks a starting town: the player's house is on Route 1.

Iki Town[edit | edit source]

A traditional town home to a festival for the Island Guardian Tapu Koko.

Hau'oli City[edit | edit source]

The region's largest city. Notable for shopping, as well as the Trainers' School.

Akala Island[edit | edit source]

Heahea City[edit | edit source]

A city closely associated with the sea. It is also known as the gateway to Akala Island.

Paniola Town[edit | edit source]

A Western-inspired town with lots of farmland near it.

Konikoni City[edit | edit source]

Ula'ula Island[edit | edit source]

Malie City[edit | edit source]

Seafolk Village[edit | edit source]

The Island Challenge[edit | edit source]

Alola, unlike many other regions, does not have a standard League: the old Island Challenge is still considered to be a rite of passage for trainers. The Island Challenge involves completing trials around the islands, with each trial headed by a trial captain. Once all trials for an island have been done, a grand trial takes place, a battle against the island kahuna, who is supposed to be the strongest trainer.

Each trial features a strong totem Pokémon, and usually involves a mission to find it. When a trial is complete a Z-Crystal of that type is awarded, as a replacement for gym badges.
