Aegislash (Japanese: ギルガルド Girugarudo) is a dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokémon, introduced in the Generation VI games, Pokémon X and Y. It is the final evolution of Honedge.

Facts[edit | edit source]

  • Blade Form of Aegislash is tied with Dialga for the highest base Special Attack of all Steel-type Pokémon and is tied with Mega Scizor for the highest base Attack of all Steel-types.
  • Shield Form of Aegislash has the highest base Special Defense of all Ghost-type Pokémon, as well as it being tied with its pre-evolution, Doublade for the highest base Defense of all Ghost-types, and is tied with Registeel and Probopass for the highest base Special Defense of all Steel-type Pokémon.
  • No other Pokémon besides Aegislash, and it's pre-evolution stages, has the dual-typing of Steel/Ghost.
  • Aegislash is the only non-legendary Pokémon who use different forms which uses the spelling "Forme" in the English Pokédex.

Design origins[edit | edit source]

Aegislash is based on a sword and shield, where it's sword seems to recognize it's wielder's potential, similar to the mythical sword, Excalibur.

Aegislash's name is based off the greek word for shield, aegis, and the word slash.
